Israeli film festival returning to London

A celebration of Israeli film and television is to take place for the second time in London this summer, featuring a film by Moshe Dayan's son and an invitation for British industry members to meet their Israeli counterparts at a networking event.

The Seret festival, launched last year by Israelis Odelia Haroush and Anat Koren, will open on June 9 for a week.

The line-up will include premieres of Israeli-made films, as well as screenings of television shows, documentaries and short films.

Launching the festival will be the UK premiere of a black comedy about an impoverished psychologist who discovers the financial benefits of letting his apartment become a jumping off point for suicides.

Dr Pomerantz, made in 2011 for just £162,000 by Assi Dayan, whose father was Defence Minister during the Six Day War, won the trophy for best screenplay at Israel's answer to the Oscars.

Also on offer is a documentary about a man following in his Shoah survivor's footsteps called Six Million and One, and a drama about the tumultuous affair between an Israeli man and a Palestinian man.

There will also be another chance to catch the critically acclaimed Israeli series Prisoners of War, which formed the basis for the American programme Homeland, while younger audiences can enjoy Igor and the Cranes, about a young boy torn between his mother and his father.

New this year is an industry day, at which professionals in the entertainment industry from both countries will have the chance to discuss their work and any potential collaborations.

The festival will close at Odeon Swiss Cottage with the first British screening of Rock the Casbah, a film about a teenage soldier stationed in Gaza during the First Intifada.

In total around 25 films or programmes will be shown at Seret 2013, making this year's line-up double the size of 2012.
