There were many references to Israel at the Irish national HMD ceremony in Dublin, despite a pre-event instruction by the Holocaust Educational Trust Ireland that there should be no mention of the Jewish state.
Last year, the trust imposed a ban on its mention, which long-standing host Yanky Fachler reluctantly accepted. When he subsequently complained, he was informed he would be replaced in the role.
In his speech, Israel envoy Boaz Modai told guests at Mansion House that only one country had "to confront the three Ds - dehumanisation, delegitimation and double standard. This country happens to be the only Jewish state in the world - Israel.
"Jews everywhere must know that there is one place which will be their bastion, one place where they can feel safe, one place that guarantees there will not ever be another Shoah. That place is Israel, the nation state founded by the Jewish people themselves."
