Hundreds of ex-servicemen and women come together for Ajex annual parade

articlemain

Around one thousand Jewish army veterans and their supporters marched down Whitehall today for the annual parade of the Association of Jewish Ex-servicemen and women.

Ajex vice-president and parade marshall Ron Shelley said there were higher numbers than anticipated, as he had feared people would drop out due to security concerns after the terror attacks in Paris on Friday.

Groups from Jewish schools JFS and Yavneh Academy joined the march, as well as 150 volunteers from the Jewish Lads and Girls Brigade.

Mr Shelley said: “It’s most encouraging, the fact that now we are getting other support from different sectors of the community.”

At the veterans tea following the march, a minute’s silence was held for the victims of the multiple terror attacks in Paris, followed by a rendition of the Marseillaise, the French national anthem.
