More than 100,000 people have joined a Facebook group urging viewers to take part in “Hug a Jew Day” today.
Ben Plaut of Pittsburgh created the group, asking followers: “Please aspire to hug as many Jews as possible.”
People from Israel, Australia, Britain and America are among those that have joined the group.
So, who would you hug and why?
TV vet Marc Abraham: “I would love to hug Larry David for giving us the comedic masterpiece that is Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Journalist and food critic Giles Coren: “I’d like to hug the gorgeous American comedienne Sarah Silverman — but only because Sandra Bullock isn’t Jewish — or is she?”
Rabbi Jonathan Romain of Maidenhead Synagogue: “Gilad Shalit — to reassure him that he is not alone and not forgotten, and that million of Jews are thinking of him and hoping for his safe return.”
Restaurant reviewer Matthew Norman: “It would have to be Sarah Silverman, for the most tediously obvious of reasons. Failing that, Howard Jacobson. I just love a hairy Jew.”
