A rise in antisemitic incidents in Manchester is down to a "shifting, and increasingly visible" Jewish community in north Manchester, according to a new report.
Antisemitic incidents are more than 50 per cent higher in the first six months of this year in Greater Manchester than in the same period in 2008 - and make up almost a third of antisemitic incidents in the UK.
There were 89 antisemitic incidents in Greater Manchester recorded by the Community Security Trust in the first six months of 2010.
Incidents spiked last year because of reactions to Operation Cast Lead. There have been 310 incidents so far this year across the country.
The figures show attacks increased by more than 50 per cent during June in the aftermath of the flotilla incident, from 40 in 2008 to 74 this year.
A CST spokesman said: "We believe that the relative rise of incidents in the Greater Manchester area reflects both the changing demography of the visibly Jewish community, mainly in Prestwich, and also that community's good links with CST's local staff and volunteers."
Outside Greater London and Greater Manchester, CST recorded 99 antisemitic incidents in 36 different locations around the UK in the first six months of 2010. Of those, 13 took place in Hertfordshire, 12 in Leeds, eight in Birmingham, seven in Liverpool, six in Nottingham, and five in Glasgow.
On Monday, an 18-year-old former Hasmonean pupil was the victim of an antisemitic assault in Golders Green, north London.
