A leading community figure told me of a new name being floated as a possible president for the Board of Deputies in next year’s election: the Conservative MP for Ilford North, Lee Scott.

Mr Scott joined the Board in 2012 as deputy for Leytonstone and Wanstead, a United Synagogue affiliate.
But the presidential poll is likely to clash with something more likely to preoccupy him — a general election.
“It’s a great honour for someone to link my name,” said Mr Scott this week, “but no one’s mentioned a word to me. My aim is to be re-elected to Parliament and be part of the government.”

He has just returned from celebrating his daughter’s wedding in Jerusalem (above), where guests included Justice Minister Chris Grayling and Immigration Minister James Brokenshire.
