Celebrity impressionist Francine Lewis failed in her bid to win Britain's Got Talent on Saturday night, despite promising "to perform like I've never performed before" and winning lavish praise from the judges.

Hungarian shadow-mime artists Attraction claimed top spot in the final of the ITV talent show. They win a prize of £250,000 and the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Show.

Ms Lewis's act, which included impressions of Stacey Solomon, Katie Price and Geri Halliwell, prompted the judging panel to call her "a genius, so clever and talented".

Simon Cowell said: "I really think we saw a star emerging tonight".

Ms Lewis said being involved in the final was unforgettable, "the best experience of my life", before wishing her son Jake a happy seventh birthday in front of the estimated 13 million viewers.

The mother of two added that she had hoped to win in order to "help provide for my family and give my kids a great start in life".

There was controversy during the show when a young woman ran onto the stage and threw eggs at Mr Cowell. She was quickly removed.

Ms Lewis - who attributed her success in getting to the final to an interview in the JC which, she said, had persuaded readers to vote for her - will now go on to try to fulfill her ambition of becoming a professional impressionist.
