Gems snatched from jeweller’s car

A Hatton Garden jeweller believes he has fallen prey to an audacious thief after he discovered nearly 300 pieces of valuable jewellery had gone missing from his car.

On August 13, the 60 year old male jeweller, who has not been named by police, had been in London's jewellery district, Hatton Garden. At around 4.30 in the afternoon, he put two bags of jewellery in the boot of his BMW, and drove north, through Swiss Cottage in north west London, en route to the M1 motorway. But somewhere along his route the jeweller felt a bump to the back of his car while he was stuck in traffic, and when he finally reached his destination he discovered that the jewellery had been stolen.

The jewellery stolen was: 207 diamond rings , 36 necklaces , 35 pairs of earrings , and six wedding rings.
All the pieces are engraved with a 'CW' mark on them.

Detective Constable Jim Morrison, Camden Police's Burglary and Motor Vehicle Crime Unit, said: "I am appealing for anyone who was in the Hatton Garden area on the afternoon of the theft or saw anybody tampering with the vehicle during the victim's route through London to call us. I am also appealing to members of the public to come forward if anybody has tried to sell them items of jewellery in suspicious circumstances."
