A rare poster advertising an evening with Harry Houdini, the programme from Bob Dylan’s first professional concert and a dress worn by Amy Winehouse are to go on display at Christie’s in London.

The South Kensington auction house is marking 120 years of popular culture with a five-day public exhibition and sale of valuable memorabilia.

Visitors will be able to see a collection of black and white photographs of Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe by Latvian-born Jewish photographer Philippe Halsman. The shots, taken in 1949, were part of a Life magazine photo feature and are expected to fetch £15,000.

A poster advertising a show by Houdini at the Argyle Theatre in Birkenhead in May 1905 is valued at up to £5,000. The performance by the escape artist — the son of a rabbi — was part of a successful European tour.
