February 7, 2018 16:24Lord Janner’s son has threatened to bring a private prosecution against the man who accused the late peer of child abuse after the accuser was himself charged with paedophile offences.
A police investigation into Lord Janner was ordered in 2013 after a man, known only as “Nick”, claimed he had been raped and abused for a number of years by a VIP gang.
It has now been revealed that “Nick” was charged last June with possession of indecent images of children, which he has denied.
A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson said: “In June 2017 a man was charged with four counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing indecent images of children and one count of voyeurism.
“The man has pleaded not guilty to all charges and the matter is due for trial before the Crown Court.”
That news prompted Daniel Janner QC to today urge the CPS to charge “Nick” with perverting the course of justice.
Mr Janner said: “Nick accused my late father of raping him – he must now be prosecuted for his lies. If the CPS refuse I will bring a private prosecution.
“The child abuse enquiry must now drop the strand in my innocent late father’s name; all the civil abuse claims against him having been dropped.”
“Nick” previously claimed he was driven to various addresses in London and introduced to people at parties.
Mr Janner, the brother of Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, the senior rabbi of Reform Judaism, added: “(Nick) associated Lord Janner with the group who physically and sexually assaulted and raped him.
“This delay is totally wrong, it’s extraordinary and smacks of a cover-up.”
Earlier today Rabbi Janner-Klausner appeared on the BBC’s Today programme and called the wider child abuse enquiry’s probe of her father’s conduct “immoral”.
Lord Janner, a Labour peer and former MP, died aged 87 in 2015. He was the president of the Board of Deputies from 1978 until 1984, and was known for his role in campaigns to win reparations for Holocaust victims.
He was also a vice-president of the World Jewish Congress until 2009, and of the Jewish Leadership Council until 2015.
Last September, Northumbria Police said it had passed a file to the CPS asking for a decision on whether charges of perverting the course of justice and fraud would be brought against “Nick”.
A spokesman confirmed the CPS is still considering whether or not to bring charges. Mr Janner criticised the slow process.
Also accused by “Nick” were the late Leon Brittan, a former Home Secretary; Lord Bramall, a former head of the Armed Forces; and Harvey Proctor, a former Conservative MP.
