The New Israel Fund announced it has appointed Clive Sheldon as its new chairman.
Mr Sheldon takes over from Nicholas Saphir, who has stepped down after six years in the role, this week.
Mr Sheldon, a QC, comes to the organisation after years of experience in the Jewish charity and educational sector.
The former vice chair of governors at Akiva School said: “NIF is a truly inspiring charity, whose values and mission chime with my beliefs and emotions towards Israel.
“I am very excited to have this opportunity to chair the organisation, to further NIF’s values and mission, especially at this time when Anglo- Jews are thinking deeply about their connections and relationships with Israel.
“The organisations that the NIF funds are at the cutting edge of social change and building a democratic and civil society in Israel - now is the time to give them even more of our support.”
Most recently Mr Sheldon served for three years as co-chair of Masorti Judaism, and has been a member of the Jewish Leadership Council.

Mr Saphir wished him luck in his new role. he said: “I am delighted that Clive has agreed to take over the chair and I know that NIF UK will be supported by an increasing number of British Jews.
“Despite many obvious issues and deep concerns for Israel and its future, to my surprise, I am delighted to find myself looking forward rather than back.
“The future is safely in the hands of NIF and its dedicated supporters and donors who willingly shoulder the responsibility to find the funds that are vitally needed for this important work.”
