Green Party leader Caroline Lucas, a vociferous critic of Israel, took the party's first Parliamentary seat in Brighton Pavilion.
Ms Lucas has called for a boycott of Israel and wrote on the “Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territories” in Jewish Socialist magazine. She enjoyed an 8.4 per cent swing from Labour.
After her victory Ms Lucas told the Jewish Chronicle:
"I feel honoured that the people of Brighton have chosen me as their member of parliament. It shows that progressive political parties can be successful and I hope to replicate the achievements of elected Greens across the country by fighting for a fairer, better Britain."
