Labour have held Birmingham Hall Green in a tight and often vicious contest against the Respect party.
Roger Godsiff held on for Labour despite an 11.7 per cent swing to Salma Yaqoom of Respect, who came second.
Ms Yaqoom, who has previously demanded the closure of the Israeli Embassy in London, called on Mr Godsiff to “be fair” in a YouTube video made for the campaign after he put out leaflets attacking her and the Liberal Democrats.
