October 10, 2008 12:26A North-West London synagogue became a temporary EastEnders set this week, as film crews arrived to shoot a scene there for the BBC drama.
Cast, crew and a host of extras from the show were based at Hendon United Synagogue on Monday to shoot scenes under the chuppah.
But a spokeswoman for the BBC was tight-lipped when asked which of Albert Square's residents would be getting hitched.
She would only reveal that the marriage involves a non-Jewish character returning to the show.
It is thought Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks, may be the kallah. She is due to return to the show following a five-year absence. Her last major storyline saw her push her husband, Barry, off a cliff.
The United Synagogue said the Raleigh Close shul had been chosen because writers of the soap wanted the wedding to take place in an Orthodox building with a traditional appearance.
Any possibility of Rabbi Mordechai Ginsbury appearing on screen to conduct proceedings seems slim, however, given the bride's obvious lack of Jewish credentials.
The scenes will be screened later this year.
