John Nimmo, 28, of South Shields, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court yesterday. He is charged with sending a communication causing anxiety or distress and remanded in custody until July 27.
Northumbria Police released a statement yesterday announcing it was “working closely with Merseyside Police after reports of malicious communication to a Merseyside MP.”
Ms Berger, former Shadow Minister for Mental Health, said: “My gratitude goes to Merseyside Police for their swift action. Behaviour like this seeks to threaten our democracy.
“Intimidation of any kind should never be tolerated.”
On July 6, Joshua Bonehill-Paine appeared in court to face a charge of racially aggravated harassment against Ms Berger.
The 23-year-old, who allegedly posted five abusive articles on his website and blog between October 2014 and January 2015, was remanded until July 19.
