Manchester's David Lewis is a step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a music star after winning a unique competition.
The Manchester Music Service Album Project was set up by Manchester City Council last year to find the next generation of talent.
David, an 18-year-old music student at Goldsmiths, was one of nine acts chosen to write, perform and record a piece on a compilation album.
He tells People: "It was a really good experience to work in the professional surroundings of the music studios. I am proud to be a part of this album."
He wrote the track, Sunken Town, while studying for his A-Levels at King David High School. "The song is about a place where people are living in horrible conditions and have no other choice but to live there. I think the inspiration came from films such as Slumdog Millionaire. It's a brilliant feeling to have your work recognised and to have a nice recording of it."
The album was launched at Manchester music venue Band on The Wall last month.
David describes his musical style as "acoustic blues with a gypsy element, influenced by an eclectic mix of artists such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ray Charles and Yoko Kanno". He is currently in the process of forming a band and will be gigging around London.
