Rabbinic student Rabbi Danny Burkeman has created a novel reference guide for those leading synagogue services.

Mr Burkeman, 29, has come up with a handbook to accompany the new British Reform siddur. The publication, entitled Leading a Community in Prayer, explains different parts of the synagogue service and provides guidance for lay readers on the Torah passages.

"The new Siddur grapples with the issues of the 21st century, and includes important modern features such as gender-neutral language and transliteration."

He has been holding a series of study sessions on the guide and says there have been a variety of attendees, ranging from Sunday-school madrichim to rabbis.
