The Zionist Federation’s first female executive director, Emma Bergen, left the organisation within weeks of taking up the post.
She came to the ZF in March from UJIA, succeeding Arieh Miller, who became chief executive of the Union of Jewish Students.
ZF chairman Paul Charney said her departure was “a pity. It simply wasn’t the right fit for both of us.”
But the organisation would be seeking a new executive director, he added.
Mrs Bergen has since joined PJ Library UK — the charity which sends free Jewish children’s books to families — as development director.
At the time of her ZF appointment, she said:"The values of Zionism and the ZF are something that really speaks to my core and to be able to have a leading influence over the way this conversation is had inside and outside the Jewish community is an opportunity I am really excited to take on."
This week, she said the ZF role “didn’t work out. I’m very happy at PJ Library.”
