York Liberals set fair for Scarborough offshoot

articlemain

In response to local demand, Liberal Judaism will next month hold the first Shabbat service in Scarborough "in living memory".

Scarborough will be an offshoot of the successful York Liberal community launched 18 months ago which is attracting more than 60 people to its fortnightly events.

If demand is maintained, the plan is to hold quarterly services in Scarborough over the next year.

Attendees can also become members of the York community, whose chair, Ben Rich, said that "with a number of members from the Scarborough area, the natural next step was to offer more local services.

"We hope we will find that we are meeting an untapped need in the town."

Scarborough service organiser Yasmin King added that although her family had enjoyed the York services, it was exciting "to have this happening on our very doorstep".
