Whole-hearted Cosgrove aid

articlemain

The new Whole Foods Market in Glasgow designated November 26 as Cosgrove Care Day, having selected the local Jewish welfare charity to benefit from fund-raising and staff volunteering over the next five months. But there was no influx of observant Jewish shoppers to help swell the amount raised for Cosgrove Care - which will receive five per cent of profits from the day - as it was a Shabbat.

Whole Foods is located in the centre of the largely Jewish Giffnock area and has committed to making its in-store bakery kosher. Cosgrove Care fundraiser Nicola Diamond said that being its chosen charity would boost its profile in the city. "We are really excited to be partnering with Whole Foods Market," she said. "We've already been getting our heads together to think of ways to raise money."

Store team-leader Darren Campbell said Whole Foods had opted for a Saturday as "the optimum trading day in order to maximise our donation. We chose Cosgrove Care as a fantastic local charity doing great work."
