A tribute to West London Synagogue, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary, was a highlight of the Movement for Reform Judaism's annual dinner in central London.
Mike Grabiner, immediate past chair of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, presented WLS chair Jill Todd and Senior Rabbi Baroness Neuberger with a framed copy of a sermon published in a 1922 edition of the JC. He said that "West London has always been a beacon of innovation, of sincerity, of progress and of leadership". A thriving Reform movement had a strong West London at its heart.
Making the appeal, WLS president Stephen Moss said the Reform movement provided "strategic leadership, delivering change, giving stability and suggesting a compelling vision of Jewish life".
Mock the Week and Outnumbered star Hugh Dennis was guest speaker, praising Reform Judaism's "absolutely fantastic" philanthropic tradition.
