World Jewish Relief supporters showed a big appetite for its second Big Bagel event.

Over 3,000 people took part in bagel-themed events in homes, schools, offices and synagogues, hoping to beat last year's £70,000.

Having been inspired by joining a WJR mission to Ukraine, Debra Levin and Joanna Mindell hosted a Big Bagel 2 event for the Pinner Synagogue congregation, with cheder children among the 100 guests. "The Big Bagel gave me a chance to demonstrate to our whole community just how important WJR's work is and what the charity stands for," Ms Levin said. "I know that WJR will make sure the money we raised goes to the people who need it most."

King Solomon High pupils in Redbridge organised a Big Bagel recipe competition. In Leeds, Brodetsky Primary children enjoyed a bagel lunch and a day off from school uniform.
