The Welsh Government has pledged £321,000 to continue sending sixth-formers on the Holocaust Educational Trust's Lessons from Auschwitz project over the next three years.

The funding represents a significant increase from the previous £80,000 annual contribution.

Announcing the commitment, Education and Skills Minister Leighton Andrews said the HET's work enabled teenagers "to explore how latent racism and antisemitism can flourish. Importantly, the project allows young people in Wales to consider the impact of intolerance in all its forms on their own communities."

Mr Andrews met Gwenan Jones and Ioan Hughes, graduates of the project, which involves a seminar with a survivor and a one-day visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
