Rebecca Weinberg, who is standing down as Leeds Jewish Welfare Board chief executive, has been appointed chair of the local St Gemma’s Hospice.

Located in the Moortown suburb, it is the largest hospice in Yorkshire, assisting more than 2,500 people last year.

Mrs Weinberg — who is remaining at the welfare board until a successor is appointed — has been a St Gemma’s trustee for seven years. She said many Jewish families had experienced the hospice’s “exceptional” specialist care. “What sets St Gemma’s apart is the holistic approach it takes towards, and the dignity it brings to, each patient.

“I cherish the shared values on which the welfare board and St Gemma’s are founded.
“Both organisations play a crucial role in the local and wider communities. I feel privileged that I can offer my own support.”
