“We often achieve great results when casting children who have never acted before,” said casting associate Jo Harris. “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who fits the brief. This is a co-lead role and will be very well paid.
“These kinds of roles are very rarely opened out to non-actors. Anyone who is interested should email their name and age, along with a recent photo, to office@deshamilton.com and we’ll be in touch.”
UK auditions will be arranged and the company hopes that potential stars will come forward from schools, youth clubs and drama groups.
Should filming take place during term time, tutors will be provided.
Ms Harris pointed out that the agency discovered Thomas Turgoose, who played Shaun Fields in This Is England, in a centre for children excluded from school.
“He went on to win Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards.”
It also cast Channel 4’s Top Boy series, about life on an East London council estate, by visiting schools in and around the capital.
Taika Waititi was nominated for an Academy Award for his short film Two Cars, One Night.
His father is of Māori descent; his mother is of Russian-Jewish heritage.
He has used his mother’s surname of Cohen for some of his film and writing credits.
