Leonie Lewis and Russell Kett have been chosen as the new vice-presidents of the United Synagogue.

Until July, the posts were directly elected by members of the US council but, following constitutional changes introduced for last month's election, the vice-presidents are selected by their fellow trustees.

Mrs Lewis is one of the first group of women trustees elected by the council of the central Orthodox body. Mr Kett had previously been a vice-president.
