The Union of Jewish Students has announced that Daniel Dangoor has been appointed as Chair of the Board of Trustees from September after a "rigorous recruitment process".

An alumnus of the Nottingham University Jewish Society, Mr Dangoor first became a trustee of the student organisation in May 2021, and has helped to shape and develop the long term strategy of UJS, worked with two successive presidents, and together with the UJS CEO Arieh Miller, helped to shape the organisation’s future plans and strategy around property and spaces to support the infrastructure of Jewish student life.

In his new role, he will lead the board that is responsible for setting the long term strategic direction of the UJS, and holds legal, reputational, and financial responsibility for the organisation.

Mr Dangoor is the son of businessman and philanthropist Dr David Dangoor CBE who in the 1960s fled Iraq with his parents Sir Naim Dangoor and Renée Dangoor, and he has worked in his family's property business since 2010.

He will take over from Paul Summerfield who has chaired the board since August 2020 and led UJS fundraising efforts.

Speaking following his appointment, Mr Dangoor said: “I’m incredibly excited to take on this responsibility. The honour and responsibility of guiding and leading the Trustees of one of the Jewish community’s most important organisations, responsible for shaping and guiding so many of our community’s leadership, is one that I am very keen to take forward.

"I am exceptionally grateful to Paul for his leadership and support during his time as Chair, and I know that I have big shoes to fill. Paul has given me every possible tool with which to succeed, and I have no doubt that his legacy as Chair and the work he has done to help build UJS will continue for many years to come.”

Mr Summerfield said: “Daniel’s mix of skills and perspective will be a huge asset to UJS. In due course, he is likely to have a significant impact on the lives of thousands of Jewish students, and this in turn will benefit our community in the years ahead.”
