UJIA has paid tribute to its £100 million man — fundraiser Zalman Speigel — on his retirement after over 30 years’ service.

The £100 million is the estimate of the sum generated by Mr Speigel and his fundraising abilities were praised by UJIA vice-chairman Geoffrey Ognall and chief executive Doug Krikler at a farewell party.

Other UJIA leaders sent messages recognising his contribution, both financially and in terms of his understanding of the community in Britain and Israel.

Mr Speigel had been a youth leader and a physics teacher before becoming a full-time fundraiser — “they are all people businesses,” he noted.
