The Chief Rabbi and Lady Sacks welcomed 60 guests to their London home for a reception to honour the work on UK campuses of the University Jewish Chaplaincy Board.
Sir Jonathan explained how, in his student days, he and a friend approached the then Chief Rabbi, Lord Jacobovits, calling for the creation of a Jewish chaplaincy scheme. The late Lord Jacobovits established the UJCB and Sir Jonathan has been president of the chaplaincy body for nearly 18 years.
The Chief Rabbi paid tribute to Ian Myers who, in his four years as chair, had expanded the chaplaincy. He also noted that Rabbi Yoni Sherizen, the charity’s chief executive, had expanded the service to two new regions this year, totalling nine centres nationally.
