The Jewish Leadership Council has set up a service to train the key activists and future heads of community organisations.
Called Lead: Jewish Leadership Excellence and Development, it will run programmes for both lay and professional leaders and will take over the Adam Science course for aspiring leaders from UJIA.
UJIA leadership development director Nicky Goldman and Sam Clifford, leadership project development manager at UJIA, have moved to the JLC to become, respectively, director and manager of Lead.
It will be chaired by Nigel Layton, who recently stepped down as chair of World Jewish Relief. He was "delighted to chair this exciting initiative to ensure that we are preparing the leaders of today and tomorrow for the challenges they face".
The JLC - which comprises the heads of 19 communal organisations - has previously been involved in leadership training, setting up the New Leadership Network as a forum for young activists. But this latest project marks a major expansion of its work in the area.
JLC chief executive Jeremy Newmark hailed Lead as "an incredibly exciting piece of communal innovation", adding: "We believe it will have a very significant impact upon the future leadership of our community."
Lead is earmarked to have a budget of £760,000 for the first three years with initial plans including a leadership training course for the 30-plus age group called Future Step, master classes and bespoke programmes for individual organisations.
Ms Goldman, who joined UJIA in 1999, has more than 25 years' professional experience in Jewish organisations and a MA in Jewish communal service from Brandeis University in the United States.
