Sweet gesture aids needy

articlemain

US Chesed is providing more than 1,300 honey cakes to families in need across 44 United Synagogue communities in time for Rosh Hashanah. A volunteer from each community collected the cakes bought by the organisation from Kay’s delicatessen in Golders Green.

Michelle Minsky, head of US Chesed, said the cakes would go to those who were “isolated, unwell, recently bereaved or elderly. It is a gesture to show that we care for all our members, particularly those who may not be able to get to shul.

“Many communities also telephone their older members at this time of year to see how they are and to see if they need any assistance from their local welfare group.”
