Sculptor Frances Segelman worked on a bust of Holocaust survivor Eve Kugler in front of a Finchley Synagogue audience on Wednesday night.

It’s the latest in a series of sculptures of survivors by Segelman, whose other subjects have run the gamut from the Royal Family to Vinnie Jones.

Her bronze bust of survivor Sir Ben Helfgott was unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in 2019.

The sitting at Finchley, Kugler’s shul, was held under the aegis of Yad Vashem UK.

“It was a very different and interesting experience,” Kugler said. “At the beginning it looked nothing like me; then it started to take shape. I was honoured to be chosen and delighted that so many people came. Frances is a lovely, talented lady and I can’t wait to see the end result."

Segelman described Kugler as “full of energy and positivity. It was a delight to sculpt her whilst profiling the important work Yad Vashem UK does educating people about the Holocaust.”
