Residents of Jewish Care's Princess Alexandra Home in Stanmore have shared in the love story of social co-ordinator Celine Allen and kitchen assistant Elliot Cohen.
And as the residents were unable to attend the couple's late evening marriage ceremony at Edgware Synagogue, the Cohens brought the celebrations back to the home for a post-wedding party.
Mrs Cohen, 30, said that "three-and-a-half years ago, not long after I started work at Princess Alexandra, Elliot used to make me a sandwich at lunchtime. We became friends and he asked me out in May 2012."
Six months later, "he proposed to me at my mum and dad's house. It was really lovely as Elliot asked for my parents' permission first."
She wore her wedding dress to the Princess Alexandra party, where her new husband was suited and booted, impressing residents more used to seeing him in his kitchen overalls.
Staff had decorated the lounge with flowers and banners and Mr Cohen's kitchen colleagues made a special cake. Residents also got to watch the couple's wedding video.
Sheila Breslaw, 85, said "it was a fantastic afternoon. They deserve all the luck in the world." Home manager Elizabeth Mandeya added: "Celine and Elliot are such a great couple. It's lovely that they wanted to share their happiness. It shows what a good relationship our staff have with the residents."
