Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis danced through the streets of Cambridge on Sunday as a Sefer Torah for the Thompson's Lane congregation was paraded.
Following the subsequent reception, attended by MPs and academics, he lunched with Jewish students and participated in a Q&A.
Topics raised included the future of the community, Jewish leadership and antisemitism.
Rabbi Mirvis also took up an invitation from Ed Kessler, the founder and director of the Woolf Institute, to join an interfaith dialogue involving Jewish, Christian and Muslim students and staff.
He said afterwards that "the local Jewish community and the J-Soc blend together to stage an impressive array of educational and social activities.
"It was also a pleasure for me to converse with Jewish students on some of the critical issues facing world Jewry today."
