Eran Dotan has achieved a magnificent seven at A- and AS level.

The 18-year-old King Solomon High pupil who commutes from Hendon to the Redbridge school recorded As in A-level maths, physics, chemistry and modern Hebrew, plus As in AS biology, further maths and Spanish.

“It was amazing to open the envelope and see those results and know that all those years at school paid off,” said Eran, who came to London from Israel six years ago. “It was a lot of work but the main reason I took all those subjects was to have something extra to get into university.” Although offered a place at UCL to study medicine, he has decided to move back to Israel and join the army after a gap year working for FZY.

“I’m definitely going to do medicine after the army and need all the qualifications because they are crucial for my future.”

Among top-performing Jewish students in the mainstream sector was Jonathan Spencer-Todd, a pupil at Dame Alice Owen’s in Potters Bar. He achieved As in chemistry, biology, maths, French and German as well as distinctions in biology and chemistry from the Advanced Extension Awards. This follows his 13 A-stars at GCSE.

“It was really nerve-racking to pick up my results because I was hoping to get really good grades,” he said. “But when I saw them it felt amazing. I’m still a bit shocked but it’s great to finally get the marks I was really hoping for.”

He is now applying to Oxford to read biochemistry after a gap-year exploring the Amazon.
