St John's Wood panel improves environment

articlemain

Three “green gurus” featured in a book on environmental movers and shakers co-edited by Liberal Jewish Synagogue member Louella Miles addressed a meeting at her shul in St John’s Wood.

The speakers were Paul Dickinson, chief executive of Carbon Disclosure; John Elkington, an international expert on sustainable development and John Grant, author of the Green Marketing Manifesto. BBC presenter Edward Stourton chaired their discussion, which attracted an audience of 150.

Before the event, Ms Miles and co-editor Laura Mazur addressed the shul’s Kabbalat Torah class, asking pupils what green changes they would like to see the congregation implement.

Many were upset by the waste of electricity and the use of plastic cups rather than china and felt that members of the older generation were complacent on environmental issues.

LJS senior rabbi Alexandra Wright urged them to lobby the shul council with their suggestions for creating a greener community.
