Sinai Synagogue in Leeds hosted the final celebration of its 70th anniversary year with an all-singing all-dancing “Simcha at Sinai” for 100 members and friends.
Synagogue chair Elsje Prins said: “What an evening we had. A beautiful venue, gorgeous decorations, brilliant meal, a relaxed and happy community, and a stunningly beautiful 70th anniversary brochure. We really are a ‘can do’ community. Thanks to all our volunteers who made it happen.” The diners enjoyed a three-course meal prepared by a team of volunteers led by Petra Mullen.
Carol Adams, who co-ordinated Sinai’s anniversary events, said: “We are so delighted that the platinum anniversary celebrations, which started a year ago with the induction of Rabbi Esther Hugenholtz, are ending on a real high with the Simcha at Sinai and the anniversary brochure which celebrates Sinai’s 70 years.
“My thanks to all our members, from the youngest to the oldest, who have helped to make our anniversary year so very special. May we go from strength to strength.”
Other anniversary events for the 600-member congregation included a civic service, supper quiz and a photography and sculpture exhibition.
