British supporters of Shuvu's network of kindergartens and schools in Israel raised £200,000 from their first gala dinner, held in central London on Sunday.
"Turning dreams into reality" was the evening's theme and the 350-plus guests were told about the expansion plans of Shuvu, which currently educates over 6,000 children, primarily from underprivileged backgrounds. It also provides a support network for pupils' families and other outreach activities.
The dinner was hosted by Philip and Suzy Goldberg and Nechemya and Ruchi Sheinfeld and the guest speaker was Kiev and Ukraine Chief Rabbi, Yaakov Dov Bleich. He said that in the light of the upheaval in the region, those who made aliyah needed schools like Shuvu's to educate their children.
