Harrogate Synagogue member Sandy Royston died of a heart attack after the morning service on the second day of Rosh Hashanah. He collapsed in the street close to the shul.
The London-born 82-year-old moved to Harrogate with his family in 1939 and after serving in the RAF built up a successful furniture business. He served the community in capacities including president.
He leaves a widow, three children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
