The Glasgow community put its full weight behind local charity Cosgrove Care at a golden anniversary gala dinner that raised in excess of £20,000. The event was held at Scotland's National Stadium at Hampden and was attended by over 300 people.

Cosgrove Care chief executive Walter Hecht gave guests a run-down of the services the charity provides for people with learning difficulties in East Renfrewshire. DJ Steve McKenna, of Real Radio, acted as MC and the after-dinner speaker was Holocaust survivor Sir Erich Reich. An auction was held of donations including art work by Peter Hausen, Philip Raskin and Ernesto Vaz.

Entertainment was provided by Edward Reid, a finalist on Britain's Got Talent, who has worked with Cosgrove's service users in workshops. Local singer Josh Karpf and accompanist Neil Friedman provided entertainment during dinner.

Organiser Eleanor Livingston, who became involved with Cosgrove 11 years ago, said the evening was a fantastic finale to the charity's year of anniversary celebrations.

"Cosgrove is so important. It goes the extra mile in enhancing service users' lives. People with learning difficulties are entitled to lead fulfilling lives as much as the next person."
