School dinner is spiced up by news of first home

articlemain

Noam Primary School has finally found a permanent home, 16 years after accepting its first handful of pupils.

Details were revealed to 300 supporters at the school's annual dinner at the VIP Lounge in Edgware on Tuesday, which raised £200,000 towards the project.

The permanent site is in East Road, Burnt Oak and the expectation is that building work will be completed in the next 15 months. During that period Noam will also go through the application process to become a state-aided school in Barnet.

Currently based at Wembley Synagogue, Noam has 180 pupils and the new building will offer expanded capacity.

Governors' chair Dr Jeremy Rees said: "For the past 16 years, Noam has been a small school with big plans, ever growing with limited space. With the help and support of a number of incredible people, Noam has finally secured a site to build a new school which will provide the best possible future for our children."

Dinner guests were invited to donate specifically for items for the new premises ranging from mezuzot to security systems.

The guest speaker was Mark Halawa, who spoke about his journey from being a Muslim in Kuwait to a practising Jew.

He stressed the power of learning, declaring that "education is the basis of sustenance, civilisation and humanity.

"Education isn't just about learning the curriculum but about understanding life itself. People need to help Noam by providing them with the tools they need to teach our children."
