Former Olympic hurdles champion Sally Gunnell was part of a sporting double act at Tuesday’s Jewish Child’s Day dinner in central London, helping the charity to a record-breaking £125,000.
Ms Gunnell — who expressed the hope that the London Games legacy would include “everyday sporting chances for young children with or without disabilities” — was joined by Israeli tennis Paralympian Boaz Kramer.
Mr Kramer told the 250 guests at the Marriott Regents Park that “sport reaches out further than just the individual. Sure, the individual participating feels the benefit but don’t underestimate the knock-on effect this has with the extended family. Suddenly all children in the family unit can participate in an activity and equality reigns.”
JCD executive director Melanie Klass said the charity — helping disadvantaged children at home and abroad — was as relevant today as at the time of its inception 65 years ago. “Too often, young Jewish children still have to struggle unnecessarily.
