A member of Manchester's strictly Orthodox community is standing for election as a governor of Salford Royal NHS Trust to help with Jewish patient issues.
Michael Bamberger, owner of Barons kosher bakery in Salford, says elderly Jewish patients often find it difficult to communicate with the hospital and there are awareness issues over religious observance.
"There are a lot of Jewish patients there and when they have concerns they find they may not have someone to turn to. It would be most useful to access decision-makers and put forward their concerns. But it's not only Jewish needs. It's a good hospital with good ratings, but I get concerned that elderly patients don't get heard."
Mr Bamberger helped to organise a Shabbat room at the hospital two years ago, offering food, drink and a prayer space for observant visitors.
