Former Simon Marks head and Board of Deputies education director Laurie Rosenberg will be the new manager of Redbridge Jewish Community Centre, Sinclair House.
He is currently working as Jewish educator at JCoSS, where he is responsible for developing informal education.
Mr Rosenberg - who is expected to assume his new role at the start of April - hopes "to continue to build on the success of the centre and make it even more of a community hub".
He is no stranger to locals, having lived in Woodford since returning from New Zealand, where he was director of Jewish community development in Auckland.
His son is a youth leader at the centre and his wife is head of the Redbridge Jewish primary, Clore Tikva.
The vacancy follows the promotion of centre manager Richard Shone, who is now responsible for overseeing all five of Jewish Care's community centres. He said that "Laurie brings a wealth of experience coupled with an inherent understanding of the Redbridge community".
Jewish Care director Neil Taylor added that the appointment had come at an exciting time. "It is no secret that we have been looking into plans to develop the centre to ensure we have a modern facility that can meet the future needs of the community.
"Laurie will play an active role in working with the community to help us understand current and future needs and develop our plans."
