The Jewish Community Centre for London marked Tu B'Shvat by expanding its tree project, designed to foster environmentalism and community relations.

Fifteen schools - a mix of private, state, Jewish and other denominations - are each nurturing a fruit tree sapling.

Every school will donate its tree to a local community institution - possibly a hospital, children's home, hospice, charity office or a park.

David Yehuda, who spearheads the JCC's social action programme, spoke about the project to pupils at St Margaret's School in Hampstead.
