Whetstone-based Sha'arei Tsedek - North London Reform Synagogue - is spreading the word with its first broadcast of Shabbat services online.

"This is a wonderful innovation for any members who are ill, housebound or otherwise can't attend a service in person," said shul chair Linda Cooke. "Just last Saturday, relatives in Australia watched a barmitzvah live on their television.

"Our 784 members know we have a contemporary approach to everything we do, both within our own congregation and in the wider community. It really fits in with our 50-year anniversary slogan: 'Looking back, moving forward.'"

Its golden jubilee programme will include a retrospective exhibition, a ramble and picnic, a choir concert and a rock 'n' roll night recalling the congregation's early days in the swinging '60s.
