A feasibility study on the Redbridge Jewish Community Centre site is being conducted by the local council, which is considering its purchase to expand the adjacent state secondary school.
The centre is administered by Jewish Care, whose director of care and community services Neil Taylor said: "Jewish Care has been openly interested in the possibility of relocating our Redbridge Jewish Community Centre to the King Solomon School site for some years now. The local authority is aware of this and themselves have shown interest, along with one or two others, in our site, as they have a school next door to the community centre."
A Redbridge Council statement confirmed a feasibility study which includes the centre, formerly known as Sinclair House, for the expansion of Beal High School. "We expect the feasibility study to be reported back to cabinet later this year."
Last week, a council cabinet committee meeting agreed to continue examining proposals for a new secular primary school on the Ilford Jewish Primary site in Barkingside.
The idea is for the 250-pupil IJPS to also move to the King Solomon High School site, which would become a Redbridge Jewish community campus with a synagogue among its intended facilities.
