Rabbi Ephraim and Malki Guttentag are to leave Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue at the end of July to become the senior rabbinic couple of Whitefield Hebrew Congregation in Manchester.

The Guttentags have been community rabbi and rebbetzin of the United Synagogue community for three years after arriving from St Anne’s Hebrew Congregation.

Brought up in Gateshead, Rabbi Guttentag is a cousin of Rabbi Jonathan Guttentag, who had been minister of Whitefield for many years until last year.

“Malki and I, together with our children, have enjoyed our time at HGSS and appreciate the tremendous opportunities it has given us,” he said.

“We will forever cherish the many friendships we have made along the way and are excited to be moving on to the next chapter in our lives, building on the experiences we have gained here, for which we are immensely grateful.”

HGSS chairman James Kaufmann said the couple would be missed “enormously. Their contribution to our community since they arrived in 2018 has been immense. At the same time, they are hugely deserving of their own community.”
