Rabbi is chaplain to Muslim mayor of Redbridge

articlemain

A rabbi has become chaplain to the Muslim mayor of Redbridge.

Rabbi David Hulbert of Bet Tikvah Synagogue in Barkingside has been selected by the new mayor, Councillor Mohammed Javed, to be one of five chaplains of different faiths during his year of office.

It is the first time a multi-faith chaplaincy has been chosen in the London borough.

Rabbi Hulbert said: “I am deeply honoured and have the highest respect for this particular mayor who I have known for many years.

“The multi-faith chaplaincy with Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Sikh ministers is original and brilliant.’’

The five chaplains will each take turns saying the prayers at the beginning of full council meetings.
