A poster campaign celebrating the employment achievements of four people with learning disabilities has been launched across the borough of Barnet by Langdon, supporting young adults with learning difficulties.
The campaign is designed to highlight the reality that having a learning disability is not a barrier to employment. The charity is also running a social media contest through its Facebook page where people can tweet or post a picture of themselves next to one of the posters with the hashtag #extraordinarylangdon. The winner gets a family photoshoot with former royal photographer Lionel Cherruault.
Among Langdon clients featured in the campaign is Marc Tish, who said: "I like having a job because it means I get to meet and help lots of people. It's also good to be paid so I have money to spend on the things I enjoy."
Chief executive Dianne Martin said that "through their phenomenal courage, hard work and determination, our members have refused to be defined or limited by their learning disability. Something as ordinary as getting a job is their extraordinary achievement.
"Langdon is very proud that 85 per cent of the people we support are working, with two-thirds in paid employment, far exceeding the national average."
Also featured in the campaign are Simon Houlton, Mark Nadler and Faith Gardie.
